It seems according to the CDC that cigarette use among middle school and high school students is down. The focus is shifting now to electronic cigarettes, hookahs, cigars, and dissolvable tobacco. The report states that overall tobacco use is down, however the authors of the following article flagged the rising popularity of products other than cigarettes that are not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration. What does that mean, well it means that those products can be taxed at a lower rate. My suspicion is the government would like to change that and increase the tax revenue under the guise of another regulatory body, the Food and Drug Administration. The end result of that is higher prices and or inflation.
